This is where the importance of SEO comes in. Search Engine Optimisation is the act of trying to increase the number of visitors to a website or blog by making sure you get a high-ranking placement when people use Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines to search for a topic they’re interested in.
Okay, the boring stuff aside. What can you do to make sure your content and blog comes up when people are looking for, let’s say “Delicious brownie recipes” or “What to wear this summer?” Well it’s actually quite simple; below you will find my 5 SEO Strategies Every Blogger Should Implement! Feel free to share this article with fellow start up bloggers or even people who are trying to build a website.
Content is KING.
This is probably the most overused phrase since the dawn of the Internet age but it doesn’t make it any less true. The first step to insure that your content is found is to make sure your content is worth finding. This can be done in one-way and one-way only: Always create content that you love. So what does this mean? Well, from the images you use, whether you’re shooting it yourself or using styled stock images, to the way you put your passion in writing and finally to making sure you’re content is always relevant or trending. It’s all about the content you produce
The Length of your Post
Now that we know how important content is, we can move to the next step. Always make sure your articles are no less than 300 words but generally we should try keeping it below 700. The reason for this, is that Google and other search engines don’t like short articles but readers don’t like articles that are too long.
Now this may seem complicated but it’s actually fairly simple. Meta Description is basically the little bit of information you see under a search result, that gives the searcher a bit more information on the post or website. So the general rule of thumb is too keep it short and make sure to have a call to action.
A call to action instructs people on what to do next, like saying, “Click here to find out what to wear this summer!” To make this easier you can also use an awesome WordPress Plug-in called YOAST. There’s a reason YOAST plug-in is the top SEO plug-in on WordPress, It’s relatively easy to use and it has a ton of features.
One of the blogging rookie mistakes I made when I started Baking-Ginger was neglecting how important Image Optimisation actually is. When uploading images that relate to your post, you have an option to edit the “attachment details.” Here, you can insert what is called ‘Alt Text” the most effective information to enter under Alt text is the heading of the post you are creating. You can also input information like, “Description, Title and URL”.
One of the most important elements for SEO are keywords. But like the saying I just made up goes, “All Keywords are equal, but some Keywords are more equal than others.”
This is where long-tail keywords come in. A keyword could be anything, which is where the problem lies. Imagine for a second you are looking to bake delicious chocolate cupcakes. You open up Google and type “Recipes” Yep you guessed it, you would get every recipe ever made, chicken dishes, cocktails and other irrelevant recipes. So it would be up to the blogger or website to make sure their keywords match what theme or what information a person would find in their posts. A Long-Tail keyword solves this problem. Rather than using a keyword like “Recipes” you would use “Delicious Chocolate Cupcakes” This would make sure that the people searching for a topic that you have already posted about, would see it!
